  • Entries display in reverse order of creation, with older entries pushed down conveniently out of the way. What happens when older entries stir up a lot of comments? They still get pushed down to the bottom. No one knows there are a lot of new comments to read. One way to take care of this would be for interested readers to subscribe to a feed. The problem here is that entries are fed, not comments. Is there a convenient way to resort (or date) entries by latest comment? Is there a convenient way to include comments in feeds?

There is a plugin called last comments. He works quite well. If you see in plugin.lastcomments.php there is a part of the file commented. It's for feed of last comments. @NoWhereMan: why did you comment this feature?
  • Lastcomments lists all recent comments without reference to entries. The list quickly fills up with comments that are of no interest to a particular visitor. Is there a way to sort entries within a category based on date of last comment instead of the date the entry was first posted? @NoWhereMan: The suggestion feeds comments for individual entries. Is there a way to feed entries and comments for a specific category?

I didn't even remember that. I guess it didn't work as expected.

you can syndicate a single category with http://example.com/flatpress/?x=cat:CAT_ID or http://example.com/flatpress/category/category-name/ you can't mix-up entries and comments, though. The result of such "query" would be too expensive to compute.

The method is always the same: http://www.vdfn.altervista.org/2010/08/09/flatpress-far-vedere-post-non-apparentemente-collegati/#entry100809-220325-english You should make a fake walker that has post sorted by last comment. However to do this you have to make a cache, like as the Last Comments plugin does. You could for example save the entry id in an array, then with array_unique you remove from the array the double entries. Then you serialize the array and you save the serialized array. The fake walker then uses this array. Done it. However there are some disadvantages...

This displays the category in Flatpress - clicking the automatic feed link in the resulting page creates a feed for the entire blog. Is there a way to create a feed just for the one category? Also, is there a way to include comments when feeding an entire blog?

Flatpress can feed all comments for a particular entry. Assuming it can also feed all the entries for a particular category, couldn't this feature optionally click down to feed each of the associated comments? In other words, people might want to subscribe to a blog by subject - by category. They get new entries only for the category they want instead of all entries in the blog. And as people comment on the entries, they get the comments too.

Makes sense. Though I wonder if this would be easier, or to redate entries when a new comment is saved?
pierovdfn said: However there are some disadvantages...

Yes. The idea is to give visitors a quick way to see latest activity in their chosen area or areas of interest. If someone spends 15 minutes on your site, you want them to get as much benefit from it as possible. Either way, they spend the same 15 minutes. The difference is how soon - and if - they return. Quickly connecting them to lively, active exchanges seems to be the key.

No, there are of risks when you want to change the date of an existent entry. However my method is very easy. You can set up it in 15 minutes...

Maybe I'm not understanding what you are suggesting then. Fifteen minutes would not be a problem :-)
