There's probably some kind of spam protection in action. You should check your junk folder, anti-spam settings and/or filters, ... Can any other PHP script successfully sent mails via this web server? Example: <?php $to = 'your FP admin mail address'; $subject = 'Test'; $message = 'Lorem ipsum dolor...

Are you looking for the specific PHP file?
There is a function entry_save() in fp-includes\core\core.entry.php.

Meanwhile I thought about this again. I guess, with the help of some regexp magic we could integrate most if not all of the functionality the plugin into the url BBCode tag.

If you really want mail notification than probably FlatPress is not for you. I guess, there are is some small forum software, which you can operate as a single person and deny other member to post entries to. You could probably also create a mailing list to which people can subscribe, but not write ...
