Can I use Flatpress 1.3 now

Post by Snubbi » Tue Nov 21, 2023 7:42 am

I have now looked through the Danish translation from fraenkiman and cannot see any mistakes in the translation. I have this homepage https://linuxcarl.dk . If I install Flatpress 1.3 on my website now, what if the final version is released, is it possible to upgrade or what

Hello Snubbi,

the current development status is not far from the official release. See Arvid's blog entry. I have now merged the Danish language pack with the development version. An upgrade should be possible without any problems. As a rule, it is sufficient to copy the fp-content directory from the current development version to the upcoming release version.
If necessary, this wiki article will be updated promptly.

With best regards
Frank

I tried to install development version. But it didn't work on my web hotel, I then chose to install 1.2.1 and before installing I transferred the Danish translation from 1.3 and it seems to work perfectly

Another way is to delete the empty fp-content folder from the zip package downloaded from the website and copy on your server all the rest, if you want to update an active blog.
Obviously you have to upload all the folders into the zip package if you want to publish a brand new blog.

Strange that you couldn't install the developer version. Do you have some details for me?

1) Did you get error messages when calling setup.php?
2) Which web server was used (for example Apache 2.4)?
3) Which PHP version is running on the web server?
4) Were there any anomalies in the server logs?

Best regards
Frank

1 No
2. Red Hat Enterprise Linux Server release 7.9 (Maipo)
3, PHP Version 7.4.33
4.web servers do not log PHP errors

hmm, too bad. I had hoped for more information. Error messages, something from the server logs. As far as I know, RHEL 7.9 should support Apache 2.4 like Debian 11. So I don't suspect any problems at this point.

Possibly the FP files and directories did not belong to the correct owner or the owner was not in the web server group. Just a wild guess.

In any case, let us know if there are any new findings.

Carl,

at first, thanks a lot for your work on the Danish translation! :D
Can I use Flatpress 1.3 now
The official answer is: If you just want to install and start blogging in a productive manner, I strongly recommend to stick with the current final version 1.2.1.

And now the unofficial one: 1.3 is under development and still has some serious issues to be solved (see milestone on GitHub).
If those issues don't bother you (or you want to support us by explicitely testing and debugging), you can of course run 1.3 on your blog. Especially if you're a experienced user (count you in that category) or even a programmer, you might be a great help for our goal to finalize 1.3 real soon! :)

As for your problem with the fresh 1.3 installation, are there any news on this?

All the best,
Arvid
