Load template depending on page status

Hello,

Depending on the page status, I want to load template files other than entry-default.tpl in index.tpl:
- Start page
- Category
- Archive

How can the status of the individual pages be queried? It must be stored somewhere, since the terms “Startseite,” “Kategorie” and “Archiv” are explicitly used in the title tag, but I don't know the variables.
