Moving site

Post by anlarye » Sun Sep 27, 2026 7:12 pm

I've moved my FP site to a new host. But now I am unable to login. I'm still on 1.4.1 so I haven't upgraded yet. The site works otherwise. Just can't log in at all. I go to login and enter the credentials and the site just stays on the login screen.

Hello anlarye,

Hmm, to narrow down the cause of the error further, I need a little more information.

After entering your username and password, do you see an error message ("Please wait 30 seconds" or "Username or password incorrect")?

Use a text editor to check the file fp-content/config/settings.conf.php

Code: Select all

$fp_config = array (
  'general' =>
  array (
    'www' => 'https://<your-new-BLOGBASE>/',

You could run the setup (setup.php) again to create a new username and password.

If an .htaccess file was moved over from your old web host, please rename it to _htaccess.

Best regards,
Frank

the URL didn't change. only the hosting provider changed.

i did rename the htaccess as suggested.

still getting the same issue of not being able to login.

there isn't any error message. it just blinks the page when hitting login and goes back to the login screen.

It's strange that not even an error message is displayed. There may be a corrupted file in the FlatPress cache.

Please delete the following directories, including all subdirectories and files:

fp-content/cache/
fp-content/compile/

Since the domain hasn’t changedβ€”only the hosting providerβ€”please also check the file permissions (0644) and directory permissions (0755).

Afterward, check to see if the problem is resolved.

Best regards,
Frank

I checked on permissions last night to make sure they were correct. No issues there.

I deleted the files as suggested. No change. Still cannot log in. I might just wipe it and start over.

Hello anlarye,

Could you please provide me with a ZIP file containing the affected FlatPress instance so I can investigate it further?

Thank you very much and best regards,
Frank

Just a thought: Make a complete backup of your FlatPress installation. Then reactivate the setup folder with all its files and delete the setup lock file.

The reasoning behind this: If you move from one web server to another, you’ll run into a problem with the certificate and the key file. Every web server has its own key file.
If the login process now reads the key file to decrypt the password, it won’t work anymore.

best regards
