George, your statement "no costs what so ever" is wrong. Repeating yourself doesn't make it less wrong.
- As already mentioned, electricity is not free.
- Maybe getting a used computer is not free.
- Time is not "free", because you won't live forever.
To cut power costs, probably a used Raspberry Pi for hosting at home could be good enough:
https://www.instructables.com/Raspberry ... og-server/
But it depends on the number of visitors and offered content, i.e., serving lots of videos is probably a bad idea.

Thank you, George, for your suggestion. I think what you're suggesting here is hosting my own server. It's a great idea and I used to do this (using Linux and Apache), before moving out of the city and off of the grid. We now live out in the middle of nowhere, off-grid, and the only access to the Internet we have is via our cell phone hotspot. But, we also save on expenses by not having unlimited bandwidth. So, hosting from home isn't feasible right now.
However, Byethost may be just what I'm looking for. I'm just checking them out and it looks as though you can install Flatpress with one of their free accounts. So, there's hope.

From
https://byet.host/index.php/free-hosting:
Along with all this, we provide free FTP, PHP 5.3, MySQL and our very popular feature
PHP version 5.3? Really?!
PHP 5.3 is no longer officially supported as of 30 Jun 2012. That's only ten years back.
FlatPress requires PHP 5.6.

FlatPress requires PHP 5.6.
Seems to be working, though!
http://my64.iblogger.org/press/ It says that I'm now running Flatpress 1.2.1. Is that the latest stable release?
Now, I just need to start migrating my blog posts to my new Flatpress install. I'm a very happy camper.

That's cool.
Yes, 1.2.1 is the latest FlatPress release.
You can lookup the PHP version on your server from the FP administration area -> Maintain -> Show info about PHP.
By the way: If you would like to know, how many pages your blog consists of, then you may wish to use my new tiny shiny plugin 'Count Pages' released just a few minutes ago:
https://www.robertriebisch.de/2022/04/2 ... st-fertig/ (page is German only, but instructions included are in English and the plugin supports German and English so far).

I'm glad you found a way to continue your blog.
By the way, your blog has a very interesting topic. I like good, old technology, not only for nostalgic reasons, but also because it can often be repaired. I prefer that to the constant "Throw it out, buy it new" from today.

Don't forget to add your blog to
https://wiki.flatpress.org/res:users.
If you don't want to register to the wiki just for this task, I could add your blog for you.
Version 7.4.8 is the latest in the PHP 7.x series. That's fine until November.
PHP 7.4 will only receive security updates until 28 Nov 2022.
After 7.x comes 8.x, which, as far as I understand, FlatPress is not ready for currently.

No need to, everything's evolving and changing constantly

In fact, FlatPress 1.2.1 runs smoothly with PHP 8.0 as well. We're actively working on PHP 8.1 support.
I took the opportunity to clarify the
Download page and the
Tech FAQ on this
All the best,
Arvid

Thanks so much and I totally agree with you on the idea of repair over replace when ever I can. I still do my "modern day" computing on an Acer Aspire One netbook. I'm either considered "cheap", "stubborn" or "resourceful", depending on a person's point of view.
Oh, and I've updated my entry in the Wiki with the new info. Thanks for the reminder!
