Using Flatpress to replace an HTML website

For a couple of years now, I've been running a website dedicated to the preservation of software and content published for the Franklin eBookMan e-book reader and PDA. It's just a hobby site for me, but I've been enjoying my efforts at keeping the memory of this groundbreaking e-book reader alive.

Anyway, up until this point, I've been publishing the website in simple HTML. It's been doing just fine, but I wondered if it were possible to utilize Flatpress in some way to help make updates to the webpage a little more convenient. I know there are many other web publishing platforms out there that can do the job, but I enjoy using Flatpress and appreciate it's "lower overhead" on the server side. So, I thought, why not try?

After a bit of fiddling around, I think the results are turning out to be pretty good. What do you think? The "official" website is here: https://www.ebookmanlives.in.nf (in it's current HTML format). Here is my Flatpress testing ground for the site: https://www.chorusgrove.site/ebookmanfp

When I get the final few wrinkles ironed out, I think I actually will be moving the test site over to the official domain space and move ahead with Flatpress as the site's platform.

Hello virtualsky,

the website looks good. However, you would have to clean up the HTML code. There are still a lot of obsolete HTML 4.01 elements in there; and an HTML element on line 198 that shouldn't be there at this point. I would banish the table style to the css file.

The W3C validator helps you to find errors in the HTML code.

Hi,

you did a pretty good job of transferring the look of the old website to the new one.
Also, I find it nice to see that FlatPress also works for sites that are more static than blog.

Thanks, Arvid! Flatpress provides a very flexible and adaptable framework/platform. With the help of the plugins, like Lightbox and Gallery Captions, a simple static site has that little extra level of sophistication, without a lot of extra work. I think it's working out well.

And yes, CSS is much "cleaner" than using tables, but I've been using HTML tables for so long, it's just what I'm used to.
