Update from 1.3.1 to 1.4.1 fails with Error 500 (setup.php does not load)

Post by intorange » Fri Nov 28, 2025 3:57 pm

Hi!

I am successfully running FlatPress-Version 1.3.1 at all-inkl.com (I have installed it by hand, not their auto-install package) and today I tried for 3 hours to update my blog to 1.4.1 with no success, luckily I did make a backup :)
I was very closely following https://wiki.flatpress.org/en:doc:basic:upgrade, however, "Run the FlatPress setup by pointing to myblog.com/setup.php." always gives me a "500 error". What am I making wrong?
Thanks in advance!

Hello orange,

Welcome to the support forum. There are many different causes for error 500. Do you have access to the web server's error logs?

You can use this troubleshooting guide, which is relevant to your error.

You may also be using the wrong update package. This update package is suitable for updating FlatPress 1.3.1 to 1.4.1.

After installing the update, you may need to set the ownership rights and the file and directory permissions.

Best regards,
Frank
