Need Clarity Before Install within CPanel

Post by ambcreate » Fri Dec 05, 2025 6:15 pm

Hello:

I am helping a friend who currently has large collection of plain HTML files that were once a Typepad blog. For the short-term, I put all the files into a new webhosting account at Namecheap, where they exist as a static website (https://www.historyofideasblog.com/). I'd now like to install Flatpress and turn these into blog posts, so he can continue creating new posts easily.

My question is regarding installing Flatpress within CPanel (and Softaculous).

Step 1 is "Choose Installation URL" and it lists the domain (https://www.historyofideasblog.com/). There is no indication that I can find that tells me if this will "break" the existing website or not. There is no option to NOT chose an existing domain (all of which point to live websites).

Is there a post or reference that explains how I safely install Flatpress into an existing website without disrupting the existing website until I'm done with the migration of the existing text files?

Any advice or guidance is greatly appreciated.
Thank you! Have a lovely day,
Andrea

Hi and welcome aboard,

I find it hard to answer this question. You should ask the web hostig provider the cPanel is running on, or directly at Softaculous.
In this situation, FlatPress is just the files that will be installed.

Would it be an idea to create a subdomain, such as new.historyofideasblog.com, and install FlatPress there? This way, you could run it parallelly until all contents are successfully migrated, and then point the main domain to the FlatPress directory (and delete the subdomain).
But this is just thought into the blue - it all depends on your hoster and how Softaculous in cPanel works - which I don't know :/

(Maybe someone else here has experience with this situation?)

All the best (and thanks for chosing FlatPress!),
Arvid

Thank you so much, Arvid! I do like the idea of using the subdomain. That's a straightforward solution. I appreciate your kind and prompt help.
Have a lovely day!

I agree with Arvid, it would be easier to put FlatPress in another directory until you migrate the old one into it.

By way, you don’t need the Softaculous installer. Since FP doesn’t use a database, it’s as simple as uploading all of the FP files to any folder in public_html. Just navigate to the new location in your browser and it’ll kick off the setup wizard.

By the way, if you need assistance I’d be happy to jump on video call with you or use a chat protocol of your choice.
